The lake was recently recognized by the European Commission for its services to nature conservation. The lake lies at an altitude of 930 m and stretches like a narrow fjord over a length of 14 kilometers. As it lies on the Gastein themed line and has warm springs, it is the only Alpine bathing lake in Europe to reach temperatures of up to 25 degrees in summer.
